Linux Mint 21.2 (Victoria) was released in July 2023, it was preceded by version 21.1, and was available for desktop / laptop computers. The Xfce and MATE edition was released on the same date. All editions including Cinnamon, MATE are based on Ubuntu LTS 22.04. There is only 64-bit versions are available to Linux Mint 21.2. Compared to previous releases, this Linux Mint version contains many new updates such as MATE 1.26, Cinnamon 5.8, and Xfce 4.18, each providing a unique and intuitive user interface experience. It is based on the powerful Linux kernel 5.15, which provides improved stability and performance.
In terms of visuals, users will enjoy a stunning new collection of backgrounds and fresh color variants for popular themes, such as the Cyan Folders with Teal theme. The software suite also includes elevated tooltips, realigned titlebar buttons, and symbolic icons that adapt to their background for a more intuitive interface.
The system provides support for multiple keyboard layouts and a configurable layout for the on-screen keyboard, making it accessible to a wide variety of users. Additionally, a password revealer is available on the login screen for better user convenience.
A significant change has been made to the Software Manager, bringing better apps and a UI refresh. In particular, Pix 3.0 is included, which gives users advanced image viewing and editing capabilities.
XDG Desktop Portal provides seamless integration and communication between desktop apps. The software suite includes Warpinator for easy local network file transfers, and the Bluetooth manager, Blueman, has been upgraded to version 2.3.5, ensuring reliable and user-friendly Bluetooth device management.
Linux Mint 21.2 will be supported by 2027.
