elementary OS 7.1 Horus was released in October, 2023, preceded by version 7.0 and was available for desktop/laptop computers. There is only a 64-bit version available for elementary OS 7.1. This release was based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and includes many new features and updates in comparison to the previous release, such as it brings an enhanced user experience through its commitment to personalization, inclusivity and privacy. With a focus on accessibility, it introduces five new display filters for people with color perception deficiencies and offers more control over keyboard behavior in System Settings.
Privacy is paramount, an improved location portal ensures apps explicitly request your location, and the AppCenter provides clear information on app permissions. You can now easily manage autostarting apps through Startup Settings, and Sideload checks advanced system permissions instantly. Clearing out temporary files is easy with Housekeeping, while the Files app's new menu highlights additional functionality like zoom and undo/redo. Notifications are more customizable, and complex network configurations, as well as VPN support, have been redesigned for smoother operation.
The sound indicator has circular buttons, and the AppCenter optimizes space usage on larger displays. The web experience has been enhanced with features like Firefox Sync and Intelligent Tracking Prevention, extensive improvements made in this version.
